This afternoon was beautiful; clear and bright without the glare, and a fresh, cool wind from what seemed like all directions. After work, I headed through Darling Harbour to The Welcome Wall, on the northern face of the National Maritime Museum. My grandparents are listed on this wall, almost exactly at eye level - which made them very easy to find today.

Afterwards, I caught the tram (sorry, the Sydney Metro Light Rail) from the nearby Pyrmont Bay stop, and took it to Central Station. The conductor FORGOT to CHARGE ME... which probably makes me a fare evader for the first time.

It's ro(i)yally pretty.

The Queen Victoria Building; looking northeasterly at the southern end. It's a rather attractive building and certainly historic, though apparently it can't be protected under Heritage Listing titles because of the extensive refurbishments and internal reconfigurations during its lifetime. Or at least, that's what I overheard someone say in the elevator.

It's a Darling harbour.

Wandered down to Darling Harbour at lunch today...

The Millennium Athlete; permanent sculpture in honour of the Sydney 2000 Olympics. I always get a bit emotional when I see this.

The big spirally water sculpture. This thing has been around for 20 years, but I don't know if it has a name. It doesn't matter, though - kids, tourists and seagulls seem to love it. Two of the concentric spirals do not carry water and are designed to be followed to the middle, and back up again, which is fantastic in summer.

North-east outside of the Harbourside Shopping Centre: Pyrmont Bridge (you can just see the monorail track, in blue, running along it), looking towards the Quay end of the middle CBD.

Same spot as above, but facing east: This is Cockle Bay Wharf - restaurants and nightclubs - and the middle CBD behind that. The spire to the left is Sydney Tower.

Third in the series, this time facing south-east towards the Central Station (ie, South) end of the CBD. The yellow-and-black building is IMAX, the Eastern Distributor front and back (it effectively sits between two lanes).
